At Taproot Midwifery we offer a unique hands on holistic and evidenced based model of care that blends the ancient art of midwifery with current research. You're embarking on a life changing experience. We're here to support not just your physical wellbeing but also your emotional and psychological well being during pregnancy, birth, and postpartum.
We believe that pregnancy and birth are normal life events that are best supported by the individualized and skilled care that Taproot Midwifery offers. In order to provide this one on one individualized care we accept a limited amount of clients per month. We also offer a blend of in-home and office appointments customized to you and your families needs.
We welcome clients to come into care at any point in your pregnancy, but encourage you to begin care as early as possible. It is very easy to transfer into our practice if you have been seeing an OB for part of your pregnancy.
Each appointment is 60-90 minutes long and it is your time to answer all your questions and educate you about what is going on in your body and with your baby. As your midwives, we want you to feel confident in your choices and empowered by your pregnancy, birth, and postpartum experiences. The care at Taproot is collaborative which means we discuss every test and procedure so that you feel that you are making a fully informed decision about your unique health care needs, it is your right to accept or decline any aspect of your care.
Healthy parents grow healthy babies, and a big focus of our care is to make sure that you are getting adequate nutrition, sleep, exercise, and community support. Prenatal visits include a pregnancy-specific Arvigo® Therapy treatment with Tel and Spinning Babies® exercises and techniques with Mackenzie to bring blance to your body.
Labor and Birth
When it comes time to have your baby, we will be in close communication. We provide in person midwifery care begining in active labor. During your labor, we will check in regularly on your vital signs and the baby’s heartbeat with a handheld fetal doppler to ensure that things are progressing smoothly and safely. Additionally, we bring well-stocked birth bags full of supplies and emergency equipment so that we are prepared should we need to use it. After the baby arrives, we typically stay for 3-4 hours, making sure everyone is stable and healthy and that the baby is latching well. Before we leave, we perform a head-to-toe newborn exam.
One of our favorite aspects of midwifery care is normalizing birth for those who are nearest and dearest to you. We are open to siblings, partners, and others being as involved in your pregnancy and birth as you feel comfortable.
Midwives excel at postpartum care with frequent visits to ensure breast/chestfeeding is going well, to rule out postpartum depression, to check in on how the transition to partenhood is going, and whether you are receiving adequate community or familial support. During this postpartum period, you will continue to have full on-call access to us via phone.
Placenta encapsulation services are available for an additional fee.
